Celebrating United Drug’s Automation Team: Best in Class Winners!
United Drug’s Automation Team has long been at the forefront of efficiency and innovation, ensuring seamless operations behind the scenes. From its humble beginnings in 2001 with just one technician, the team has grown alongside the automation system itself, now boasting seven skilled technicians operating 24/6. Their expertise and dedication have been pivotal in maintaining and improving United Drug’s automated systems, which is why it’s no surprise that they have been recognized with the prestigious PHOENIX PPS Best in Class Award.
We caught up with some of the team members to learn more about their roles, their experiences, and what this recognition means to them.
The Backbone of United Drug’s Automation
John Hannan, Automation Manager, describes the team as “system experts maintaining and supporting the systems to ensure the Operations team provides best-in-class service to the customer.” Their work is essential in keeping United Drug’s operations running smoothly and efficiently. Night Shift Technician Peter Bourke highlights the critical nature of their work: “I make sure that night shift operations run smoothly and on time. This is crucial, especially for our dispatch area and van drivers coming in to collect their rounds of deliveries.”
A Team Built on Collaboration and Expertise
When asked about memorable moments, Automation Specialist Krzysztof Wisniewski recalled a significant achievement: “One of the most memorable moments was during a major system upgrade project with no impact to customers. Another was when we completed a big SCS carousel system load bearings replacement as the only non-Schaefer team in Europe.”
For Peter, the camaraderie among the team is what stands out: “Throughout the year, I am scheduled for major services on machines. It’s a nice break from the norm to connect and have a laugh with the rest of my team on these days.”
What Winning the Best in Class Award Means
For the team, this award is more than just a title; it is a validation of their hard work and commitment. As one technician put it, “A lot of our work tends to go unnoticed. It is nice to get recognition for the hard work we put in.” John Hannan echoed this sentiment: “This is the standard we have always worked to as a team. The award is just acknowledgement for all the work the team does.” Peter Bourke humorously added, “Maybe someday we can swap our Snickers workwear for black tie and suits when we attend the award ceremonies!”
Looking to the Future
The Automation Team is always striving to stay ahead of the curve. As Noel Palmer explains, “With the system getting older, we will find ourselves undertaking jobs we have not yet faced, bringing new challenges to overcome.” The team is also excited about innovations and efficiencies being developed through initiatives like the Kaizen system. Peter notes, “It opens up possibilities to create and think about new and better ways of doing things using our existing machines while allowing scope to develop new ones.”
Thank You to the Automation Team!
A huge congratulations to the entire Automation Team for their well-deserved recognition. Their expertise, teamwork, and dedication are what keep United Drug moving forward, ensuring customers receive the best service possible. Here’s to many more successes ahead!
