Substance Misuse: An Understanding of the Community Pharmacist's Role
We were delighted to host our second Webinar of 2022, on the topic of substance misuse in the community and the role pharmacists can play in spotting the signs and offering support to their patients.
Denis O'Driscoll, Superintendent Pharmacist, McKesson Ireland, shared key guidance on how to best interact with patients suspected of misusing a substance in any form. Customers gained valuable knowledge on how to give support and signpost when it comes to a patient’s health, both mental or physical at the pharmacy, therefore helping pharmacists to feel more comfortable in having that initial conversation about the patient’s wellbeing.
Both Denis and Martin provided insights in their experience as pharmacists on how important the community pharmacist is in recognising the signs and signposting in an open non-judgemental way.
The community pharmacist can play an important role in providing optimal care for the patients misusing any substance, and they can be a vital support in helping patients and steering them in the right direction to resolve possible substance misuse issues.
United Drug are delighted to remind you that the content and materials from our webinars can be included in your ePortfolio for CPD learning. We welcome you to use the content we provide for your reflective practice to identify new learnings or how you can improve your knowledge, skills, behaviours, or attitudes within the pharmacy.
